Superficial Chemical Peel - Light Chemical Peel

Imagine smoothing away prematurely aged, damaged or impure skin to reveal smooth and youthful skin. This is the premise of chemical peels. A chemical peel exfoliates the skin in order to remove damaged or aged layers of skin to expose the softer, more youthful skin underneath. Chemical peels are not limited to the face; you can also have an herbal peel done on your back, stomach, upper arms or thighs.

Superficial chemical peels or a light chemical peel is used when a heavier type of peel isn't necessary. The benefits of a light chemical peel for a surface skin issue can get rid of the skin problem.

Light Chemical Peel

The superficial chemical peel is the first of three types of chemical peel. It is the mildest form of chemical peel, and is safe for all skin types. Normally superficial peels use mild solutions like glycolic acid or dry ice. A medium peel is harsher than a superficial peel and basically causes a second-degree burn of the skin. The harshest form of chemical peel is the deep peel. A deep peel penetrates through several layers of skin. Because deep-peeling agents could bleach the skin, deep peels are not recommended for dark-skinned patients.

Benefits Of A Light Chemical Peel

A superficial chemical peel can offer you many benefits yet very little in the way of risks or side effects. It is available to any adult at any age. If you’ve been in the sun a lot, you may want to start as early as 25 or 30. The first visible effects of premature aging from sun damage are visible on facial skin then. Superficial chemical peels peel off the appearance of years by removing fine wrinkles and skin roughness caused by the sun. Patches of scaly skin that will become actinic keratoses, and lesions that can be an early start to skin cancer are also removed by superficial, or light, chemical peels.

If your skin is deeply damaged by the sun or if you have pronounced acne scars, superficial chemical peels are not the appropriate treatment for you. Moderate to deep chemical peeling is a better solution, either by itself or in combination with other procedures, such as soft-tissue augmentation. These defects are deeper than the surface of the skin and cannot be removed by merely removing the topmost layers of dead skin.

If you want to reinvigorate your skin and give it a more youthful appearance, consider chemical peels. If you are considering a chemical peel you may want to try an all-natural herbal peel. You have many choices at a medi-spa in your area.
