Microdermabrasion
Thinking about Microdermabrasion? The microdermabrasion procedure is the mechanical exfoliation of the skin to remove the uppermost layer of skin cells. Microdermabrasion benefits include leaving your skin softer, and younger looking. Microdermabrasion recovery recommends not being under sunlight if sensitive.
Typically you’ll need a series of treatments to get acceptable results, although compared to other forms of skin resurfacing, microdermabrasion is very inexpensive, typically ranging from $100 to $150 per visit.
Microdermabrasion Benefits
Microdermabrasion has many benefits. It gives the skin a fresher, more glowing look, diminishes sun damage, fine lines and wrinkles, as well as enlarged pores and coarse-textured skin. Microdermabrasion also makes it easy for high-tech skincare products to actually penetrate deeper layers of the skin and build collagen, thus giving your skin a more youthful appearance. Typically microdermabrasion takes about 20-30 minutes and there's no downtime for the skin to recover. That's why it's also sometimes called a "lunchtime peel."
Microdermabrasion is also known by other names such as particle resurfacing, power peel, derma-peel or Parisian peel. I
Microdermabrasion Procedure
The procedure is not terribly painful and requires no anesthetic. Microdermabrasion can be used medically for scar removal when the scar is raised above the skin around it, but is less effective with sunken scars. There is very little, if any, evidence that microdermabrasion stimulates collagen formation, however. Microdermabrasion can also be used for treatment of acne, but must be repeated at intervals to be effective. Microdermabrasion should not be used on patients who have taken the Accutane (Isotretinion) within the last 12 months.
There are various methods of microdermabrasion, including the use of jets of zinc oxide or aluminum oxide crystals, fine organic particles, or a roughened surface just like sandpaper. Dermabrasion follows the same general principles but is performed under general or light anesthesia, as it is a more extreme abrasion of the skin.
Microdermabrasion Recovery
Like anything, there are some things you must be cautious of if you are going to have microdermabrasion. First, make sure the person performing the procedure has adequate expertise. The results are contingent entirely on the level of expertise of the practitioner. After the procedure, make sure all traces of the aluminum dioxide used for the microdermabrasion are removed from your skin. Stay out of the sun after your microdermabrasion. Lastly, if you have sensitive skin, proceed with extreme caution. You should consult with a medi-spa in your area to find out if microdermabrasion is right for you.
