Chemical Peel Recovery

A chemical peel exfoliates the skin so that damaged or aged layers of skin are removed to expose the softer, more youthful skin underneath. It typically uses acidic chemicals, such as Trichloroacetic acid (TCA), Phenol, or Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs). A chemical peel recovery after a chemical peel treatment may involve chemical peel side effects. An alternative to a chemical peel is a herbal peel.

Chemical Peel Side Effects

Recovery from a chemical is straightforward. In order to promote healing and limit the risk of complications, follow the instructions given you by the treatment provider exactly. The instructions will warn specifically against using makeup or being exposed to the sun for two weeks. Use sun block with an SPF rating of at least 15 or higher before you go outside, as your skill will be particularly photosensitive after a chemical peel.

Skin Type

Your skin type, and the strength of the peel, will affect how you recover from your chemical peel. Within the first two weeks the skin may break out until it has fully recovered. I fact, your skin could also look and feel sunburned. Lighter peels tend to cause redness and skin peeling for a few days. Deeper chemical peels, on the other hand, can cause your skin to blister, scab or peel for up to two weeks. Your skin may also be swollen after a deeper peel. If your skin reacts severely the doctor may prescribe ointments, creams, oral steroids, and the use of dressings. The treated skin is extremely susceptible to injury after being treated. Therefore, it is necessary to communicate any adverse reactions to your doctor.

Skincare

The treating doctor will also recommend a daily skincare routine. You must follow it precisely as it is essential to the healing process. Follow your doctor’s regimen exactly, but be sure to report any complications that result from the peel or the new skincare regimen.

Herbal Peel

In addition to chemical peels, you may want to consider an herbal peel. The herbal peel is a clinically developed, purely plant-based method for skin peeling. It is used to treat many cosmetically unappealing skin conditions, such as wrinkles, scars, prematurely aging skin, enlarged pores, skin impurities, stretch marks, cellulite and diminished skin elasticity of the stomach, upper arms and thighs.

Chemical Peel Treatment

The first treatment takes an hour or two, including the consultation with the treating beautician or physician. The second treatment would take about 45 minutes, and takes place on the fifth day after the first. Herbal peels use all natural plant extracts. Herbal peels have many benefits, including removal of fine lines and wrinkles, removal of impurities, and firming of facial features. Results are visible in five days after treatment. For more information, or to find out if a chemical peel is right for you, consult with a medi-spa near you.
