Blue Chemical Peel

The blue chemical peel is aptly named for the color of the compound when applied to the skin. It contains the same ingredients that are found in a trichloroacetic acid peel, also known as TCA. The peel is generally used to reduce the presence of fine lines, rid the skin of superficial acne, and reduce pigmentation problems. Each application takes approximately 10-15 minutes. Repeat treatments may be necessary, in order to achieve the ultimate goal. Unlike phenol, the blue chemical peel can be applied to skin other than the face. In addition, the peel depth can be adjusted to achieve optimal results. After any chemical peel, patients should avoid being out in the sun. When venturing outside, a sun block with a minimum of SPF 30 is absolutely necessary. For some patients, the doctor may want to take care of the skin via an alphahydroxy peel, before progressing to TCA.
